We're the Schunemunks Mountain Loop. Ok, I think I finally got the hang of trying to explain the difficulty of Outerthere hikes. Like all our trips, this hike is for "adventurous beginners" because our pace determines everything. It's one of the only hikes where we can adjust the difficulty as we go from beginner all the way to advanced, and if you've ever gone on a hike with me, you know I like to make "adjustments" all the time. And although it's not really for site seeing, there's plenty of spectacular views.

That said, beginner, intermediate, or advanced, there’s really only one word to describe this trip - picturesque. The walk to the trailhead is about a mile, but takes us past the train tracks we arrived on and through a smattering of homes so scenic, you wonder if anyone even lives in them.  At the trailhead, we ascend a manageable 1,300 feet up the namesake mountain, after which, it’s all downhill and we can basically enjoy a loop around the northern face of the mountain.

We'll be meeting at the entrance to NJ Transit in Penn Station in NY Penn Station at 8:45a to buy our roundtrip tickets to Salisbury Mills Cornwall Station ($16 each way). We should be back at Penn Station no later than 8p. Here's my handy-dandy checklist for what gear to bring. Hashtag for this trip is #schunemunks
