Hard Harriman-to-Tuxedo Hike
Original trip description:
It's the one you experienced hikers have been waiting for: a Harriman-to-Tuxedo via Ramapo-Dunderberg dayhike. We're catching the 9:14a NJ Transit train out of Penn Station in NYC (don't be late) to arrive at Harriman Station by 10:15a. (After you get your $25 round trip to Harriman from the teller or machines, the group will be meeting at the top of the stairs to the waiting area). Then we hike roughly 8 hours south to Tuxedo, NY. It's something like 13+ miles over some of the most rugged terrain in Harriman State Park and once we've started, we're committed and there's no turning back. I put together this ridiculous hike because I was very curious to see if it could be done; it can, but it will test your spirits, and your navigation skills (you'll see). And we absolutely, positively have to make it to Tuxedo by 6:15p to catch the train back home, so we'll be maintaining a brisk pace the entire day. Bring your binocs, heart monitors, and GPS's, 'cause it's gonna be an epic day you don't want to miss.
