Caves in the Gunks?! You read correctly. The Shawangunk Ridge in the lower Catskills region of NY state, also known as the Shawangunk Mountains or simply "the Gunks" for those who know, is one of the top 5 outdoor climbing destinations in the country, with legendary climbing and climbers frequenting all summer long. Well, this weekend, the local caving club, The Shawangunk Catskill Area Grotto (SCAGs) in conjunction with the Century House Historical Society is hosting a series of events at the Widow Jane Mine on the Snyder Estate, located at 668 Route 213 in Rosendale, NY and we're going to check that out! And while we're there, we'd be idiots to pass up the epic bouldering and hiking that the Gunk's is also known for. So grab your helmet, knee pads, and scruffiest pair of boots, because it's going to be an epic daytrip you don't want to miss!
