Walking the dogs
We’ve been trying to do this trip since 2015, but first, we needed to find a provider. When we found one, she only allowed rides in the sleds where she was the musher. Pass. The following season, snow conditions weren’t right. Then, we found a guy, but he gets injured, so he directed us to Spencer who’s in NY state, but is so far north, he might as well be in Canada.
Spencer is a legend. A former engineer who quit his job to be outdoors more (relatable), he eventually finished in the 1993 Iditarod, still kept a kennel of almost 30 registered Siberian huskies always ready to race on his property. Apparently, we were destined to go this year because not only was Spencer and his huskies amazing (and closer than Alaska), snow conditions couldn’t have been more perfect. This trip was a 4-year dream come true and we’re hoping to do it next time the stars align. You really can do everything in New York!
