Happy 5th Birthday Outerthere!
What a sumbitch, this trail. A thru-hiker put it in my head a few years ago when one of the first hikes I hosted ran into her at the midpoint. I've been staring at it on the map ever since, but was like, nah man, 20-mile day-hike ain't for me. Until, suddenly, it was.
But, now I know better. That trail couldn't be 20 miles. So this weekend, we did it. It was just 12 miles. However, something about the southern end of Harriman, the trail that starts and ends at Suffern, makes each mile seem longer. Some weird NY/NJ state line vortex, I guess. So, it felt like 20 miles. I feel like I shouldn't tell you that two of us really felt this hike in our knees because then you may not want to come out on other trips, so I won't tell you. Just know that no man (or woman) was left behind, harmed or hurt in the making of this video. And we made it in and out together as a team. Good shit. Epic day.
